In the first of his appearances this season Sergei Babayan takes on the challenge of the first 24 Preludes and Fugues of Bach’s 48. The pianist’s own fascination with Bach’s music led him to study with the great Bach authority and conductor Helmuth Rilling. Of his interpretations of the composer, The Scotsman wrote: ‘One would be hard put to it to name a Bach interpreter of his standing today. His performance has a tonal spectrum many orchestras would envy’.
