PROFESSORS

Our professors are piano virtuosos, all having graduated from world renowned institutions such as the Royal Academy of Music and Manhattan School of Music. They have also performed in some of the world's most prestigious venues, from Wigmore Hall to Lincoln Centre.

 

Janice

Music Director


Janice is the Head of Music at W Piano Studio. She is an international award winning* pianist, who enjoys a multifaceted career as a teacher, composer, and author. She has been actively teaching piano performance, music theory, music history and composition since 2010. 

Her students range from 3 years old to adults (beginners to ABRSM Diploma/Conservatory audition preparation). Her students are Distinction achievers at ABRSM exams, competition winners, and have gained admission to London’s ICMP. She also taught theory and counterpoint at the Junior Academy of Royal Academy of Music.

Janice performs extensively throughout United States and Europe. She appeared in prominent concert venues around the world including Walt Disney Concert Hall (Los Angeles), Kaufman Center (New York), Royal Festival Hall (London), Salle Gaveau (Paris), Teatro Toniolo (Venice). She was featured in a live broadcast on New York’s leading classical music radio programme WQXR.

She was awarded a scholarship from Manhattan School of Music, New York, where she received her Bachelor of Music. There, she worked with Andre-Michel Schub, winner of the Van Cliburn 1981, one of the most prestigious international piano competitions. 

While living in New York, she also worked with Eduardus Halim, student of legendary pianist Vladimir Horowitz. 

She received a scholarship from the Royal Academy of Music, where she achieved a Distinction for her Masters of Music degree. She produced “Debussian Exchange”, a documentary for her research project on Debussy’s Pagodes and the Gamelan.

When she is not teaching, she composes pieces for her method book dedicated to the talented students of the studio’s Artists’ Programme, which will be published at the end of 2021. In her free time, she plays the Gamelan at the Southbank Centre.
